How can you get a fish from a bag to the tank?

The proper way to acclimate your fish is to set the closed bag into the tank and let it float for a minimum of 15 minutes this will allow for the temperatures to become close in degrees. Open the bag and pour 1/2 cup of your tank water into the bag. Wait 15 minutes. This is the start of acclimating the fish to the possible PH differences in the water. Add another 1/2 cup of your water to the bag. Wait 15 minutes. Once more after the 15 minutes, dip the bag under the water and allow your fish to swim free.

DO NOT net your fish from the bag. This can cause injury and stress on your fish. Changing homes is already stressful for your fish you really don't want to add any more.

ALSO: If you are buying your fish from a reputable store....their water is better than yours. There is no reason you cannot use their water or want to get rid of it. Ich doesn't come from the LFS water. It is already in the water unless you are running a UV Sterilizer.

If you are worried about parasites, disease you should observe your fish at the store. Ask the clerk to feed that fish and watch it eat and swim. If it looks funny, don't buy it. Quarantine tanks are also a good remedy for new fish.

ALSO: If you are acclimating koi either tank or pond, increase the amount of water to 1 cup and the time to 25 minutes.
