Microsolutions Backpack Dvd

I have my CD drive in a Backpack that hooks to my computer through Parallel Port But my Computer doesnt see it

It is a Microsolutions Backpack, I took the original CD drive in there out and put in my own DVD RW drive, I hooked everything up right, but my computer still doesnt see it. Do I need drivers or something?
I got all the drivers and everything for it, but as soon as the loading bar finished installing my computer restarted and kept restarting without giving me a chance to do anything, I did last known good configuration and it's working now, but I think it's the DVD drive it self doing this, because it happened last time i directly put the dvd drive in, i just didn't realize that was it. Any help?

Yes, you would need a different device driver for that DVD drive. The problem here is that the driver you may need is designed to work with specific brand of DVD drive and it's firmware. And finding that DVD device driver may be difficult and there's no guarantee that it may still work at all because it may not communicate thru the parallel port.

My suggestion would to get an 5.25" external housing which supports any hard drive, CD or DVD drive, and it use the USB port for connection (I'm using one now). Since most computers/laptops have built-in USB ports, the device driver is already installed and they are Plug-n-Play ready which means your computer will see it as soon as you plug it in.
