Can you machine wash an army backpack (tarp, metal, and canvas elements)?
I recently bought a backpack from an army surplus store. It has metal buckles, clasps, etc, and is mostly canvas. The bottom half is water-proof or at least -resistant - seems to be tarpaulin. Since it's used or has been stored for a long time, it smells slightly musty. Handwashing with regular detergent doesn't make the smell go away. Can I just machine wash it? If so, any idea what setting(s) to use (water temperature, etc)? Thanks!
The top of the dishwasher might work, but if you're like me and without a dishwasher you need another option.
Maybe try putting it in the washer, cold- gentle cycle and then let it air dry. If you can find a tag on it, or instructions for washing on an army site you could try doing that.
I don't think it's going to get ruined in the washer though, unless you feel it is a bad idea, give it a try.
