How can I get my boyfriend to be more respectful of my apartment?

I'm not a neat freak, but I like to have a clean apartment. A bit OCD i suppose. The problem is my BF practically lives with me (stays over nightly, has toiletries, clothes and other stuff). He isn't paying rent or bills but that's not the issue. The problem is he is becomming a slob. I still consider him only a guest NOT a roomate. He leaves the seat up, doesn't hang his towel up, leaves an empty TP roll, doesn't rinse his dishes, leaves my laptop open or won't put it back where it belongs, turns of my ceiling fans because they "bother him" (even though it's 95 degrees out), leaves his clothes and shoes all over my house and leaves crumbs on my coffee table. I don't mind him staying here, but it is MY apartment and when i say this he says i'm over reacting and he's not perfect. I used to look the other way on most things, but when i get up at 4am to pee and trip over his shoes, almost fall in the toilet because the lid is up and then have no toilet paper, i get a bit peeved. HELP!

It's hard to find anyone else who is going to keep house just like you do and I think it's only fair to expect to make some compromises in this situation. Yes, you have every right to ask him to improve specific parts of his behavior in your apartment, but I doubt he'll ever keep things just like you would. For your part, be specific in asking him to do things and give a reason why (for example, 'I don't mind you using my laptop, but sometimes I can't find it after you've used it. Would you please try to put it back where you got it from?').
It's also important to make sure he knows where things are and where they go. If he wants to just kick off his shoes, make sure he's got a place to do that (next to the bed or door seems to work). Does he know where the toilet paper rolls are kept?
My other words of advice comes from trying to share a bathroom with my roomate: get a night light for the bathroom or hallway and keep a stash of toilet paper hidden somewhere, just in case. (I tried using only the stash of hidden TP and making her go without until she replaced it...she used paper towels from the kitchen and clogged up the toilet...)
