Best food to take with you when mountain climbing?

Well, everyone is different. Here is what I do. I take an orange that I eat at a break after hiking or climbing of one hour. It has natural sugar, vitamin C and some liquid too. I take a power bar in my pocket and munch on that at 30 minutes and 90 minutes. Some people use GU or Shot blocks, but you can (studies show) delay the onset of exhaustion by taking carbohydrates every 30 minutes (but not at the start, 0 minutes, that hurts performance for some reason). Water is important to prevent dehydration but you need salt too to prevent Hyponatremia. What experts suggest is salty snacks like pretzels. I drink a sports drink, but experts insist there is no evidence that it improves performance in athletes. Because of the cold and enormous energy output you will need to replace the calories you burn. As for dinner, freeze dried foods are the simplest. You don't want to fool around cooking beans for heaven sakes. Some people in the past have even taken a sandwich for dinner to avoid cooking, but something hot will be appreciated, even if it is a hot chocolate or a pot of tea. Good luck.
