How do I backpack Europe?

Sounds like a stupid question - but please answer if youve done it.

there are automatic lockers in most train or metro stations that you can leave your big backpack for a small fee if you do not feel safe leaving it at the hostel (or if that is not possible). Try taking a small back pack with you with your travelling papers and money (not in the backpack, use a special neck case that can be hidden inside your clothes), keys, etc. A bottle of water and the city map are a must. As for clothes, try dressing in layers (e.g. comfy pants, t-shirt, shirt and light jacket on top). Make sure to pack an anorak and why not, take a small umbrella with you. The weather
in autumn can be quite unpredictable in some european countries.

P.S. Most metro and/or train stations have security personnel, at least in my country. I have yet to see someone try to break into the lockers and steal luggage...
