Backpack as carry on?
I'm flying from Chicago to Amman via Royal Jordanian airlines in a few months. I plan on only carrying on my backpack with the things I need for the flight. I'm concerned about going over the weight restrictions, but I've heard from other people that it would just count as a personal item. Will it be okay if I go over by a few pounds?

If they're strict, you may have a problem. Per their carry-on restrictions, your personal item must conform to the following measurements (also see link below):

I can't tell you how strict they are in practice, but I would be willing to bet they will either force you to check it or pay extra if your bag is full and the actual depth is greater than their stated limit. Your choices are to find a slightly slimmer bag or to make sure your bag is not full. Measure and weigh it beforehand, particularly on the return, if you do choose to use your current bag.
